Family involvement in education has been proven to
have a significant positive impact on student achievement. The Family
as Faculty program seeks to enhance the skills of educators and
other professionals to effectively collaborate with and understand
families. This proven and effective model is being replicated with
support from existing programs at the University of South Florida
(Dr. Sally Wade) and the University of North Florida (Dr. Kathryn
Krudwig).
Family as Faculty prepares family members who have experience
with exceptional student education or early intervention program
services. These family members are provided guidance on selecting
and crafting a positive message for future and current educators.
They are then asked to serve as guest lecturers in college courses
throughout the local five county region. Each guest lecturer is
required to complete a six hour training which includes practice
of their presentation. The presentation is 20 – 30 minutes
long followed by a question and answer period.
We are building a pool of diverse family members and want to make
you aware of this resource. We hope you will request one of
our presenters for your upcoming courses. Below you may download
a project brochure, a speaker directory, and a presenter request
form. We look forward to supporting you in enriching your syllabi.
